Adoption Blessings

Hello friends,

I can't thank you enough for sharing in our excitement about Allie coming home. Our whole family - from the boys to all the grandparents - are thrilled and we are anticipating Allie's arrival with so much joy. The boys are counting down the days (5 to go) and every conversation begins with, "When Allie comes home, we will . . ." They are so funny and can't wait to be big brothers. One thing for sure . . . Allie is going to be looked after well with her 3 brothers around. And of course we know one very amazing angel watching over her, too. This child will be smothered with LOVE!

We made our reservations. Unfortunately the boys will miss the entire first week of school because we couldn't find a flight out of here on Tuesday. So we are leaving Monday, August 20th and will arrive home Friday, August 24th. We look forward to this trip with nervous anticipation . . . and will be so glad when we are on the flight home with Allie on our lap!

I have to send out a BIG thank-you to Sarah! She is the mom of Sophie - who was also adopted from Guatemala - and she is the one who led us to our adoption agency and Allie! Needless to say she is very special to us! She has also been a wealth of information and advice and has helped us through each stage of this adoption. God definitely placed her in our life at just the right time and we are so grateful for all of her help.

I am still on my emotional roller coaster . . . so very excited yet nervous. And no doubt this will be another bittersweet time in our life. Our family has changed so much over the past year - but Donnie and I both agree that it is so much better to have our family increase than decrease. Please pray for all of us as we become a family of 6 once again. And pray for the foster and birth mother - as our hearts are forever bonded with this precious baby! And pray that God wraps Allie in His love and comfort as she transitions to our family. We understand that this might be hard on her at first - and we will do all we can to comfort her and let her know that she is loved.

Adoption is when a child grew in its mommy's heart instead of her tummy.

Children are a gift from God and adoption is such a blessing. I truly think adoption is a calling - and I'm so thankful that God put this calling in our hearts. It humbles us greatly to know that God is trusting us with this child to raise and love and we promise to do that just as we have done with our 4 boys. And throughout this adoption process I have often thought of how we are ALL adopted as well - by our Father in Heaven. He loves each of us more than we could ever imagine.

Ending with a scripture . . .

"God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding."
Ephesians 1:5-8

The nursery is just about done and I will share pictures of that soon. It turned out just the way I wanted . . . I love it! But for now - here are a few pictures from my baby shower. I am so thankful for each special, precious gift! There was a whole lotta PINK going on . . .
Nancy (my dad's wife), me, my mom and my mother-in-law. My friend, Rhonda (who hosted the shower) and I
My dad is from West Virginia so he is a huge WVU fan and he bought the baby lots of WVU outfits! We all have tickets to the WVU/USF game on Sept. 28th so now the baby will be well-dressed for the game! :)
But Donnie and I both graduated from USF - so it should be an interesting game! Donnie said that Allie will wear the WVU outfit - but a USF bib, socks and hat . . .
she will be so confused! :)

Thanking God for adopting us,

Congratulations! We adopted both our boys at birth in the US, and i don't know how we could love them any more than we do. God takes care of everything, and you will immediately bond! It will be like you've known one another forever. The quote about adoption in your heart is from Bil Keane, the cartoonist from the Family Circus. I googled the Family circus and found their website, and emailed customer service to see if I could get a print of the cartoon. Gail Keane (Bil's daughter) wrote me back & said she could send me a color 7" print for $45, and that her dad would not mind inscribing it for us. He wrote that cartoon when his 1st nephew was adopted. It is a picture of the mom from the family circus looking into a stroller of a friend's baby. The kids are talking, & looking at their mom looking at the new baby, and the girl says, "We came from mommy's tummy. But Joseph is adopted, so he came from his mommy's heart" It is beautiful, and a treasure to have. I'll see if I can find the website or email address for you. You'll be too busy to do that. : ) I'll be praying for you all~

Hi to you all!

It's less than a week now that Ms. Allie will be joined with her new family. What an awesome event that will be. I believe strongly that her transition into her new family began some time ago - that she will feel at home immediately - for this is an event that was ordained some time ago - maybe even before her birth!

She is joining a loving, caring family that has its very own guardian angel. She has been feeling your loving energy from afar already - imagine how she will feel when that energy can be felt in person!

I have to admit to feeling rather proud of all of you - your journey has not been easy and yet you've haven't backed down from any of the challenges that have been put in your way. May your journey forward be one that will permit you all to experience the love that the universe has to offer.

For sure there is a lot of loving energy being sent to all of you - including our amazing Angel Jacob - as you move forward into the formation of your new family.

Best of luck on all of your travels. Allie will be such a lucky little girl.

I agree that adoption is a calling. Last year I really felt a pull that I have never before felt. My heart knew that I had to adopt a child. My son came home from Guatemala in March. He is truly a blessing. He joined two very proud sisters. Your boys are going to be great big brothers. Allie is truly blessed.

Best of luck in all of your travels.

Heather & Family,

Oops, you did it again! lol I'd say more times than not, your posts bring tears to my eyes. I can't believe you'll have Allie in your arms this time next week! My parents are flying into Tampa the day before you guys get home, or I would've told them to keep a lookout for you guys! Have a very SAFE flight and trip there and back!! I know you'll have your Guardian Angel riding alongside you on the planes to and from Guatemala. Give Allie hugs from us! Poor girl, when she gets older, her big brothers probably won't let ANY boys near her! lol Thank you for being SUCH an inspiration and for sharing your lives with us!

Lots of love always,

Congratulations! I know you are nearing travel but wanted to share something we took on the trips to pick up our daughters. We packed the McDonald's happy meal TODDLER toys. They were small and easy to pack in any small space! We kept some for the return trip but donated the others to the adoption agency. The local McDonald's actually us gave them to us to take on our trip. Duplicates were ok, because we left them behind.

There is nothing like a baby in the house. We welcomed our sweet Izzy just one week after we lost our Catie. God knew just how much we would need her, and I have no doubt that Allie will continue to help your heart to heal...

Congratulations! I wish you all the best on this new journey. Allie is blessed to have you all in her life. I'm sure Jacob is watching.
I recently had a baby girl and was ordering announcements from Carson.com and they had some great sayings for announcing adoptions.

Thanks for letting me be a part of your baby shower. It was just a HUGE blessing to be included in your joy and anticipation and to see the way the Lord continues to use you and your precious family to radiate His love. Allie is a lucky girl to be enveloped into a home so full of love and faith, and I just feel the Lord's plan in action when I think of you meeting her and holding her for the first time.

I pray for your trip to be safe and for these moments to be as sweet and awe-filled as any birth could possibly be.

From an adopted child, I just want you to know what a special mom you are. It takes a very special kind of heart to open and just embrace a child as your own and to know that because the Lord gave her to you, she is as much yours to love and cherish as if you'd given her life.

If you could, would appreciate prayers for a friend of mine. Dawn and her family are trying to adopt three children from Liberia. They found out today that the orphanage is in such horrible shape that the department of health is shutting it down. Dawn doesn't know if this means the kids could come here sooner or if it means they'll shut down the orphanage and the kids will just disappear and they'll never see them.

Heather and Family,

God has blessed you once again. I am one of the thousands of people that have come to know you through Jacob's site. I am praying for a safe trip for your family to bring your daughter home. How's that sound? You have a daughter! WOOOO. Thank you once again for sharing your life and your family with us.
Frogging with you,
