I've been writing this update over several days - so it's a long one! I'm finally having time to post it . . . My computer time is limited with a baby in the house! :)
Donnie and I were talking the other day about how different our life has turned out from the way we thought it would. When we first got married 12 years ago - we were young and had visions of living the perfect life. Don't we all have those dreams when we start out in life?? Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would marry my childhood friend and then have triplets, cancer, the loss of a child and adoption from Guatemala be part of our journey! What a roller coaster ride our life has been - full of the highest highs and the lowest lows. Yes, our life has been "extra" ordinary - and although there are some things I wish so badly I could change - I am so glad that Donnie is the one God chose to travel the journey through this extraordinary life with me. Donnie has held my hand through the good times and the bad and there is truly no one else in the world I'd rather have by my side on this roller coaster called LIFE.
Having 4 kids in the house is keeping me quite busy - but I do thrive on the chaos! :) Between diapers, homework and walking the dog . . . the day goes by quickly and I usually can't wait to fall into bed at night. I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving break next week and having everyone home together for 5 days.
But no matter how frazzled, stressed or busy my days are - I always wish that they could be busier . . . because I wish that Jacob were here, too. I want that extra lunch to pack, homework to check and clothes to wash. And no matter how stressed the days are, I always take time to thank God each night for my children. I am so humbled and thankful that God chose me to be their mother - all 5 of them have been such a blessing in my life. And after losing Jacob - I am just overwhelmed with gratitude that I get the gift of another day with each of them. I don't take LIFE for granted and I am so thankful for each day.
We have all been sick at our house this week with the first cold of the season. Nothing serious - but we are definitely going through the kleenex! Allie has her first cold, too, but so far she is handling it like a champ . . . she is still eating, sleeping and smiling! Although I can tell you that she does not enjoy having her nose wiped! :)
The kids are all doing well. It amazes Donnie and I every day how completely different Brandon & Devin are . . . they are total opposites. We often joke that they solve the "Nature vs. Nurture" debate because they were nurtured the same but their "nature" is so different! Devin is an extreme Type A personality. He always tries his best and worries about everything. He likes things neat and is the best helper - always cleaning up after himself. But he is so competitive and is a perfectionist in all that he does. Brandon is an extreme Type B personality. He is laid-back and carefree - not a worry in the world! He is messy, but happy and always sees the positive in every situation. Devin is the type that gets upset if he misses one on his spelling test . . . but Brandon can miss 3 and be excited that he got 12 right! :) And they are even different when it comes to baseball . . . Devin plays to win and tries so hard to knock one over the fence - but Brandon just plays to have fun! They are the bestest of friends - but they can argue about everything. Yes, they definitely make life interesting as we try to find a balance between these 2 extreme - but lovable - personalities.
Devin
Kyle is doing well, too. He has really gotten into reading this year and is plugging away through the Harry Potter books. He started reading them in August and is already on the 5th book! I LOVE to read - so it thrills me to see him reading so much.

Allie is growing so fast . . . can you believe she will be 9 months old next week? AMAZING how time flies when your children are young! Allie is so much FUN and I just love our time together - watching her learn new things. She is pulling up on everything now . . . the couch, the sliding glass door, the crib, my leg . . . she definitely prefers to be vertical and I am fearful she will be walking soon. I just want her to SLOW DOWN! :) She says Mama, Dada, Bye-bye and Mo for Elmo. She claps and waves and when you tell her "NO" she shakes her head no - it is too cute. She doesn't take a pacifier or a thumb or a blanket - but she sure does love her stuffed animals and has to have at least 4 in the crib to go to sleep - with her favorite one being Elmo. Can you believe Allie doesn't have any teeth yet? She is a toothless wonder - but I love her big gummy smile. My girl still loves to eat and we have yet to find something she doesn't like - she eats anything and everything. It's hard to believe that 3 months ago when we brought her home she couldn't even roll over and now she is in constant motion - exploring her surroundings. She has brought so much healing to our hearts and JOY to each day. We are so thankful for the gift of adoption! We just love this little one so much. Here are some pics of Allie . . . standing, clapping, laughing, loving Elmo, wrinkling her nose and being silly!
Wearing her new shirt from my aunt-
I love it!
The boys continue to adore Allie and I get so much pleasure watching them with her. They can be rough-housing or arguing - but the minute they see Allie - they all turn to mush! She brings out the sweet side in all of my boys and I love hearing them talk to her and watching them take care of her. I feel like I am getting a glimpse of the type of father I HOPE they will one day be. They love her so much and are so proud of their sister.

We have ALL lost a sweet, amazing child to cancer and I am so thankful for their friendship.
November is National Adoption Month . . . and I can't tell you how glad I am that we took that leap of faith and followed our hearts when we felt led to adopt. There are over 11 million orphans in the world . . . they all need homes and families. I know that adoption is not for everyone, but if you feel led then I encourage you to take that leap of faith. Allie was definitely worth it! Please visit my blogger friend, Angel, who has several wonderful posts on adoption . . . especially read her Sunday (Nov. 11) post and watch the video. So very touching - grab your kleenex and pray for all these beautiful children! I know I wish I could bring them all home!
Ending with a scripture . . .
"This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It's adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike "What's next, Papa?" God's Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what's coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we're certainly going to go through the good times with him!"
Romans 8:15-17

What a beautiful entry. I am right there with you, except we have been married 11 years now. We had no idea when we married where our life would take us. I am pretty sure we weren't thinking four children, two of them adopted (provided we get to complete this second one). I also had NO idea what a joy this life would bring me, though there are days that it is a little crazy. You have a beautiful family, both here and in heaven. Thank you for sharing them and for sharing of yourself...
Yes, life has definitely taken twists we never expected, but we are always surprised with the blessings that God gives us along with the pain of the losses.
I am so happy that you and Donnie were open to adoption... Allie is a beautiful blessing to all of you!!
Love and FROG!!

Everyone looks beautiful and growing so fast!..What an uplifting post. Allie is such a princess. Yours and Donnie's smile is evidence of so much happiness around you. A big hug from our family to yours!
Love and Hugs..
Heather-
You write so beautifully. I am always so happy to see a new post and this one was so special. I just love the pictures of the boys and the descriptions of the triplets. I am also an extreme type A personality, so I can relate! My younger brother is an extreme type B and the youngest brother is a nice mixture of the two! It does help to balance things out sometimes! I know you've spoken about that before with Jacob being the balancing triplet.
Praying, believing and FROGing in CT.
Love, Kyle
Heather, what a beautiful entry. Thanks so much for the update, I know your busy and have you hands full, but I love hearing about your family that I've come to love several years ago now. Jacob is never far from my thoughts, the boys are doing so wonderful and I'm just happy to see all the pictures and hear your updates on all of them, they are just precious just like you and Donnie! Hugs from Texas. Tammy in Fort Worth
I echo Reba in saying what a beautiful pre-Thanksgiving entry.
Someone wrote me the other day that life is like railroad tracks, always a good track and a harder track to balance. God is good though, we look into the faces of an Allie, a Brandon, etc. and it renews our hope and faith instantly ! What beauty and promise shines in those faces.
Once again, you made my day.
Because of you, I have been visiting and praying for Sydney Sims and I remind everyone to do the same, as she really needs it this week, and then come see the the little Duckworth children smile
to balance the tracks.
Love,

Hi! This post was an absolute joy to read. As always, the pictures are wonderful- love seeing all of the smiles from everyone! :) Wow- "nature vs. nurture"- a flashback of all of the psychology courses I have ever taken and my daily work. I have always been told I could be the poster child (now adult) for Type A personality, whereas my older brother has all of the qualities of Type B personality. Anyway... great post and fantastic pictures! Have a delightful day! :)
Smile :)
Awwwww.... I was just reading your beautiful blog like always and getting all teary as usual and then read about ME in there. :0) I adore your blog and your faith. I have such a deep admiration for your precious heart. Your children are ALL so very beautiful- inside and out. Your life is extra ordinary. I am glad that I get to peek into your hearts on this blog. Thank you. Hugs! Angel
We so enjoyed the photos of all of your beautiful children, but my daughter was quick to point out that in the one photo of Allie in her sweet pink PJs, she looks like she is praying - of course in her Allie way - with her big beautiful smile! It was our favorite.
Thanks for always reminding us to be grateful for our blessings, both big and small.
Your entry is just beautiful. You have such a loving and beautiful family. As usual, I really look forward to your posts and want to thank you again for sharing all your wonderful pictures. I sit here with a big smile on my face and every week I get my husband to share looking at them with me. The boys look so happy with their new sister and Allie looks absolutely content. I know that Jacob is looking down with a big grin on his face. Hope that you all have a Happy Thanksgiving and I look forward to seeing pictures of Allie's very first Thanksgiving.
Sending love and hugs.

I agree with the others - a beautiful post, and such an accurate reflection on the joys of life. I so enjoyed hearing the updates on your boys, too. After following them online for a few years, it's great to watch their personalities develop.

Heather,
I read your entry and look at all the pictures of your beautiful family and KNOW that there is so much more to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! I cherish the love I see and feel pour from all of your eyes and smiles, it reminds me of the love I feel from Jacob's pictures. You are one special family and I count my blessings to be even a small part of your lives!
My two boys can seem so much alike one minute and exact opposites the next. They are truly very different though, and it is interesting! I am so looking forward to a break from school! I will be thinking of you all! Sadly, we won't be at Disney for Thanksgiving this year, first one in 11 years!
Love and FROG!
Shaun
To my dearest Heather,
Wow, another heartfelt post, and as always your words touch me so deeply.
What a GRATEFUL heart you have, and a content one too!
I continue to look forward to your posts, and I continue to leave feeling so much of God's love and peace each time.
Thanks for sharing these awesome pictures. They say so much about the love between you and Donnie, and your beautiful children.
I give thanks to God each time I think and pray for the Amazing Duckworth Family!
Yes, your life is nothing ordinary.
Blessings to you all,
Susan
PS Oh, how I wish I could give Allie a great big hug and squeeze her!! She is so BEAUTIFUL!!!
Your entry was very moving. I too married my best friend. We started dating when I was 13, and never looked back. I can't think of anyone I would rather share the joys and heartaches of life with.
All of your children are so great. Allie is getting so big! She is really making great strides. Reese was behind when he came home too, but I think that she is moving faster than he did!
You find the good in your life. You are very inspiring.
Can never go wrong sharing these wonderful words. Praying!
Job 19:25-27 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
Heather,
Tonight I had the chance to sit and talk to Rhonda Wills who brought a special reminder to the table for me. Then reading your post reminds me how thankful and blessed I am to have Pete to lean on, love and share this life with.
When my kids are driving me crazy, when my husband is being the 4th kid, when I'm at the end of my patience, I'm reminded that I wouldn't have it any other way. It's chaos, but it's my chaos and i'm thankful for it.
It was so good to see you and just laugh and laugh at the Fisherman's Ball, I hope we get to do that cookie date! Just tell me when and we'll be there.
I love the pictures and updates on the kids, they are so joyful and it's tremendous to see the way Allie has just melted into your family. God surely placed this special girl in your home with a purpose.
Lots of love and always frogging with you,
Anissa
